Texans invited to nominate outstanding artists for prestigious biennial awards
AUSTIN, TX [June 2, 2025] – The Texas Cultural Trust (TXCT)—a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and culture industries in Texas while celebrating artistic excellence —has announced that nominations are now open for the 2027 Texas Medal of Arts Awards through Thursday, July 31st, 2025.
The Texas Medal of Arts Awards (TMAA), presented biennially by the Texas Cultural Trust, honors distinguished individuals and organizations whose creative achievements or philanthropic support have opened doors to artistic opportunity for Texans of all ages. Since 2001, this star-studded celebration has raised substantial financial support, visibility, and awareness about the power of the arts to enrich a child’s education and enhance our state’s economy and cultural heritage. Texans are now invited to nominate a Texas artist, individual, organization, or corporation that exemplifies excellence in their respective discipline or category for the 2027 celebration.
“The Texas Medal of Arts Awards is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary talent that has been cultivated in our state,” says Heidi Marquez Smith, CEO of the Texas Cultural Trust. “These artistic leaders and luminaries not only shape Texas’s cultural identity, but their stories highlight the importance of investing in the arts and arts education across Texas to preserve our cultural legacy.”
TMAA has recognized many influential and talented honorees such as Dennis Quaid, Matthew McConaughey, James Surls, Miranda Lambert, Deborah Roberts, Donald Moffett, Gary Clark Jr., Luke Wilson, Eva Longoria, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson, as well as individual and corporate arts patrons including Margaret McDermott, The Tobin Endowment, Moody Foundation, Kimbell Foundation, Sarah and Ernest Butler, H-E-B, Gene Jones and Charlotte Jones Anderson, among many others.
In February of 2027, the Texas Cultural Trust will celebrate the creative achievements, exemplary talents, and outstanding contributions by Texans at the 13th biennial Texas Medal of Arts Awards. Nominees may be submitted for individuals or organizations who have contributed to the arts in the following categories: Architecture, Arts Education, Arts in Health, Arts Patron (Individual, Corporation, Foundation), Craft, Dance, Design, Film, Folk Arts, Lifetime Achievement, Literary Arts, Media/Multi-Media, Music (Songwriter, Performer, Ensemble), Television, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts.
