Media Advisory: Texas Cultural Trust’s First Year Teacher Grants Now Open For Applications

by Texas Cultural Trust

What: The Texas Cultural Trust (TXCT), a statewide nonprofit committed to bolstering support for the arts and spotlighting artistic excellence, has announced that its 2025 – 2026 First Year Teacher Grant applications are now open. As part of the Trust’s Arts Access program, these one-time $1,500 grants support first-year arts teachers in providing quality arts education for students in rural and Title I schools.

Designed to ease the financial challenges of a teacher’s first year, the grant can be used for professional development, classroom materials, educational field trips, and other resources that enrich the arts learning experience for students in Texas. Last year, TXCT awarded six educators a First Year Teacher Grant, totaling $9,000 in grants. Since the program’s inception in 2019, 53 educators have received grants, totaling more than $79,000.

Who: Applicants must be entering their first year as a public school teacher, under contract with a Title I campus, and certified as an arts educator. Priority is given to teachers serving rural, low-arts-access areas.

When: Applications are open from July 1st through August 15th, 2025. Recipients will be announced in the fall of 2025.

Where: Arts teachers can apply online at https://txculturaltrust.org/what-we-do/arts-access/teachergrants/

Why: The Texas Cultural Trust understands the vital role of quality arts education for all children. According to its recent 2025 State of the Arts Report, students highly engaged in the arts are more likely to meet college readiness benchmarks, pursue higher education, experience enhanced neurodevelopment and emotional growth, and demonstrate higher community engagement. However, the report also highlights significant disparities in access to arts education across Texas school districts, as 61% of teachers providing elementary arts education instruction are not certified in the arts, and suburban secondary schools offer 59% more arts courses than rural schools.
