Founded in 1976 by Artistic Advisor Ann Williams, Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) is the nation’s 10th largest and Dallas’s oldest continuously operating minority professional dance company. Its mission is to create and produce contemporary modern dance at its highest level of artistic excellence through performances and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse communities. Over its 40-year history, DBDT has performed in two Olympic Cultural events, five continents, 15 countries and 31 states for four million arts patrons and 2.6 million students; and annually serves more than 100,000 people, including over 20,000 youth. Its performance and educational programs bridge cultures, reach diverse communities and encompass ever-expanding audiences.
