Corporate Arts Patron
SBC Communications Inc. has a strong tradition of funding arts and cultural programs throughout Texas. SBC, through the SBC Foundation, continues to concentrate on specific areas of education, community and economic development, health and human services, and cultural and arts outreach. Since 1996, SBC has awarded more than $41.6 million in arts and cultural outreach grants, in large part bringing these programs to students in underserved areas. Across the state, SBC grants have made their mark on cultural projects such as live theater workshops in Houston, folklorico ballet in Dallas, POPS concerts in El Paso, expansion of the International Museum in McAllen, and restoration of the Majestic Empire Theaters in San Antonio. One of the Foundation’s grants was also the largest single corporate gift ever given to a women’s project in the United States – $10 million to The Women’s Museum in Dallas.
