Texas Women for the Arts Awards More Than $294,000 in Grants to Increase Access to the Arts

Texas Cultural Trust’s giving circle invests in arts education for children across Texas 

AUSTIN, TX (June 1, 2023) – Texas Women for the Arts, a program of the Texas Cultural Trust (TXCT), has selected 41 arts programs from across the state to receive more than $294,000 in funds for the 2023-2024 year. Texas Women for the Arts (TWA) is TXCT’s statewide membership group, composed of more than 200 philanthropic leaders across Texas. 

“Texas Women for the Arts has awarded 362 grants, totaling more than $4 million to arts programs across the state of Texas,” said Heidi Marquez Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Cultural Trust. “TWA remains an invaluable force in Texas, driving positive change and ensuring access to the arts for generations to come.” 

Cheryl Votzmeyer-Rios, the 2023 TWA Grants Chair, acknowledges the crucial role the organization has taken in creating a place for the arts within Texas, saying, “this program, an unwavering source of inspiration, provides crucial funding to nurture the artistic spirit within our communities. Through the collective dedication and support of this program, we can continue to build a brighter, more vibrant future for our state.”

Leslie Blanton, of Houston, is the Texas Women for the Arts Executive Committee Chair and expresses deep gratitude for the generous support of the organization’s donors. “It is truly an honor to be able to support 41 arts programs in 2023,” said Blanton. “The generosity of our members reiterates the importance of investing in arts education.”
